Scaling Your Course
Players enjoy golf more when they have a fair chance to succeed. Making a beginner or young player play a course that’s too long not only hurts their score, but it also damages the chance they’ll want to come back, much less fall in love with the game.
U.S. Kids Golf has addressed this challenge for years, starting with Family Tee Plates that were first sold in 2001 and have now been distributed to more than 2000 courses around the world. The plates allow courses to scale each hole to a fair distance suitable for kids to play, allowing opportunities to make legitimate birdies and pars for every player. This idea soon became a part of the highly successful U.S. Kids Golf World Championship and, ultimately, to every event within our tournament structure.
The ability to score well early has a cognitive component, increasing enjoyment and confidence in both the short term and long term development. Many top players on professional tours acknowledge that the ability to score well as junior players on scaled courses provided them the proper mindset to continue to do so as they started to play longer distances.
Moreover, U.S. Kids Golf created the Longleaf Tee System, a data-driven method to scale courses for every level of player. Implemented first at Longleaf Golf & Family Club in Southern Pines, NC, and soon adopted by the American Society of Golf Course Architects, the Longleaf Tee System is a significant way to help every player enjoy their golf game a little more.
