World Van Horn Cup 2021

Overview

Following the three-day championship, qualifying boys and girls from each of the 12-year-old age groups are selected to play in the Van Horn Cup, a one-day best ball tournament contested on Pinehurst No. 4.

Selection Procedure

World Van Horn Cup participants will be selected based on score after 36 holes (Round 2). Once 36-hole scores are compiled, the Van Horn Cup selections and an alternate list will be published. Selected players will receive a special World Van Horn Cup bag, hat, and caddie bib for the competition.

Format: Team Best Ball Stroke Play

In each of the eight matches, the team with the lowest score after 18 holes will win one point for his/her team. If the competition ends in a tie, a playoff will determine the winner.

2021 World Van Horn Cup Recap

With COVID-19 limiting International participation in the 2021 World Championship, the event format was changed for the second straight year to feature a Red vs. Blue format instead of the traditional United States v. International format. The Red Team secured the Cup by a final score of 5-3.

Each year, the boys and girls pairings with the lowest rounds in the World Van Horn Cup are awarded a Morrison Medal, named in honor of the late Sir Garth Morrison, who was Lord Lieutenant for East Lothian, and his wife Lady Gill Morrison.

Lucas Gimenez (Florida) & Miles Russell (Florida) claimed the Morrison Medal from the boys' side with a round of 66 (-6) around Pinehurst No. 4. The teams of Dresden Bounds (Texas)/Asia Young (Oregon)and Angela Zhang (Washington)/Athena Singh (Kentucky) posted a round of 5-under 67, and took home the Morrison Medals from the girls’ age groups.
