Tournament Information Hub

Overview

Following the three-day championship, 20 boys and 12 girls from 12-year-old age groups will compete in a one-day best ball tournament contested on Pinehurst No. 8.

Selection Procedure

Participants will be selected based on their score after 36 holes (Round 2). Once 36-hole scores are compiled, the Van Horn Cup selections and an alternate list will be published. Selected players will receive a commemorative golf bag, shirt, hat, and caddie bib patch for the competition.

Ties will be decided by using the U.S. Kids Golf Scorecard Playoff policy as follows: Ties for team positions will be broken by the best score on the second round. If the tying players have the same score on the second round, the winner will be determined on the basis of the best score on the final nine holes of competition. If the tying players have the same score for the final nine, the winner will be determined on the basis of the final six holes, final three holes and lastly the 18th hole of the final round. If the players are still tied, continue backwards from the final hole of competition until a winner is determined. For 18-hole players, the “final nine holes, final six holes, etc.” is considered to be holes 10-18, 13-18, etc.

Format:

Team Best Ball Stroke Play - In each match, the team with the lowest score after 18 holes will win one point for his/her team.

Awards:

Awards will be presented to the winners of each match. The Van Horn Cup trophy will be presented to the winning team after the event.

The Morrison Medal:

Each year, the boys and girls pairings with the lowest rounds in the match were awarded a Morrison Medal, named in honor of the late Sir Garth Morrison, who was Lord Lieutenant for East Lothian, and his wife Lady Gill Morrison.
