Selection Procedure
Beginning in 2022, the European Van Horn Cup selection process will be slightly altered.
European Van Horn Cup participants will still be selected based on score after 36 holes (Round 2). However, beginning in 2022, players will be selected onto two teams (Gold and Blue), instead of the traditional Western Europe v. International team format.
Once 36-hole scores are compiled, the European Van Horn Cup selections and an alternate list will be published. The top four players in each age group (Ages 12 and up) will be selected, seeded, and given team assignments for the event.
Format: Team Best Ball Stroke Play
In each of the seven matches, the team with the lowest score after 18 holes will win one point for his/her team. If the competition ends in a tie, a playoff will determine the winner.
Overview:
Following the three-day championship, the European Van Horn Cup, a one-day best ball tournament, is contested between the top players from the European Championship. The top four finishers from the Boys 12, Boys 13, Boys 14 and Boys 15-18, Girls 12, Girls 13-14 and Girls 15-18 qualify for the event.
Recap:
The 2019 European Van Horn Cup saw the International side retain the title for the seventh consecutive year by a final score of 7–3.
Each year, the boys and girls pairings with the lowest rounds in the European Van Horn Cup are awarded the Morrison Medal, named in honor of the late Sir Garth Morrison, who was Lord Lieutenant for East Lothian, and his wife Lady Gill Morrison.
In the girls' age groups, two International pairs posted rounds of 10-under 62 to claim two points for their team, as well as Morrison Medal honors.
The duo of Isabella Dovhey (USA) and Lavanya Gupta (India) went bogey-free in the match of 11-year olds to secure the first point of the day for the Internationals.
In the 15-18 age group, Pia Babnik (Slovenia) and Pia Perthen (Austria) made 11 birdies on their way to a victory, inching the Internationals closer to the title.
The International side took home Morrison Medal honors on the boys’ side as well.
Graden Lomax (USA) and Filip Grave (Sweden) fired an 11-under 61 to edge out a one-shot victory for the International team in the boys 10 age group.
Sihan Sandu (USA) and Jaka Babnik (Slovenia) made nine birdies and an eagle to fire 11-under 61 in the 13-year old age group, securing a decisive Cup victory for the International squad.
